On 15th and 16th February 2025, the second phase of these walks was planned in 8 cities: Bengaluru, Dimapur, Halol, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Ranchi, Trivandrum, and Ujjain. These walks coincided with the Great Backyard Bird Count 2025 (Feb 14-17), a global community science event held annually in mid-February.
Libraries in Karnataka are now evolving into vibrant spaces where children can explore, learn, and nurture their connection with the natural world. Children’s enthusiasm for birds continues to grow, with many eager to learn more and take part in additional bird-related programs.
Inquiry-based learning is an educational approach that taps into our natural curiosity. It’s a question-driven process where learners actively engage by asking, exploring, and discovering. The practice supports learners as they build upon their knowledge—while also encouraging critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of the world.
As part of the #YoungBirdersChallenge that took place in the last week of December 2024, we received some beautiful entries. Two young birders, Magizh C T and Abhinav Raha, have shared their thoughtful contributions with us. In this post, we take a closer look at their nature journals.
On October 6th and 8th, 2024, Early Bird and the Ataavi Bird Foundation, in collaboration with local partners, organized bird walks for children aged 9-13 in five cities: Delhi, Kolkata, Mysuru, Mumbai, Shirgao (Goa), and Gobuk (Arunachal Pradesh). Read the blog to know more.
On August 24, 2024, we hosted a “How to be a Birding Buddy” workshop in Bangalore with 21 participants. The event featured interactive activities like bird sketching, games, and group discussions, all aimed at enhancing nature education. Participants reported increased confidence in engaging children through bird-themed sessions after the workshop.
The latest session in the Birding Buddies Online Series explored the connection between Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and artistic expression, emphasizing their roles in fostering a deeper connection with nature. The goal was to equip participants with creative tools to engage with the natural world by tapping into their emotions.
The Young Birders’ Workshop (YBW) is a 4-week online workshop for 10-13 year old kids, a unique opportunity for young birders to take the next step in their birding journey. The Young Birders’ Workshop (YBW) 2024 has just concluded, leaving behind a trail of fond memories and knowledge gained by enthusiastic participants.
