The Young Birders’ Network connects children across India who are curious about birds and nature, offering opportunities to learn, explore the outdoors, and interact with experts and fellow young birders. Mentioned below are some of the initiatives under the Young Birders’ Network:

  1. Young Birders’ Workshop

Started in 2021 as a one-month online summer workshop, this program explores a variety of themes related to birds and nature with young participants. By 2025, more than 250 young birders have taken part in the workshop. You can read about the latest workshop here.

In 2026, independent educators from multiple cities have come forward to conduct the workshop in their neighbourhoods using our Young Birders’ Workshop Guide. We support these educators through workshop materials, course content and insights from previous batches.

Here are a few journal entries from participants of the 2025 Young Birders’ Workshop.

  1. Bird Walks and Field Engagements

To bring the learnings from the Young Birders’ Workshop into the field, we regularly conduct bird walks and nature journaling events in collaboration with local educators and organisations. These events provide young participants with an opportunity to observe birds in their natural habitats, practise field skills, and interact with experienced birders. Read about some of these bird walks here.

  1. Online Talks and Webinars with Experts

Since 2021, we have also been organising regular online sessions that allow young birders to interact with experts and explore new and exciting topics related to birds and nature. Recordings of several sessions are available on our YouTube channel.

Why are scientists listening to nature?

Have you ever wondered how scientists “hear” what animals are saying? This session, led by Rithika Fernandes from Roundglass Sustain, explores the fascinating world of bioacoustics. Monitoring sounds of animals helps us understand how they communicate, find food, and stay safe.

To Step In or Stand Back: Learn How to Be a Wildlife Champion

Have you ever spotted a baby bird or an injured animal and wondered what to do – to step in or stand back? In this interactive session, wildlife rescue experts Jayanthi Kallam and Subiksha Venkatesh help you learn how to safely assist animals and when it is best to leave them alone.

No Passports Required – A Bird Migration Adventure

Ever wondered how birds know when it’s time to travel? Or how do they find their way back, year after year? In this fun and interactive Young Birders’ session, avid birder Bijoy and scientist Tuhina come together for a lively chat filled with stories, science, games, and quizzes – all about bird migration.

4. Young Birders’ Month (YBM)

Young Birders’ Month (YBM) was conceived by Early Bird in July 2025 as a dedicated nationwide celebration of birds for young people. Planned and executed in partnership with WWF-India, the first edition was held in November 2025. Read the YBM 2025 Debut Edition Report here: https://youngbirders.in/report-2025/

Designed as a collaborative campaign, YBM brought together a diverse network of conservation organisations, birding clubs, schools, nature educators, parents, and young participants. More than 200 events were organised across 80+ locations, reaching over 3,000 participants ranging from four-year-old children to college students.

As part of this celebration, Early Bird also organised several events including an inter-school quiz competition – Wingmasters, and a two-day bird-themed festival – Feather Fest, in Bangalore.
